Real matcha shouldn’t taste like a dare. At Framberry we make our matcha lattes with ceremonial-grade Japanese matcha — the good stuff — whisked smooth for a cup that’s naturally sweet, gently grassy and genuinely lovely to drink. You get calm, jitter-free energy that lasts, without the bitterness or the sugar overload you find when a café hides cheap matcha behind three pumps of syrup. Have it hot or iced, with the milk of your choice, here in London.
Our matcha menu
Here’s what we whisk up:
- Hot matcha latte — ceremonial-grade matcha whisked to a smooth paste and topped with steamed milk. Warming, creamy and naturally sweet.
- Iced matcha latte — the same proper matcha, poured over ice with cold milk. Our most-ordered drink the moment the sun comes out.
- Strawberry matcha — real strawberry layered with matcha and milk for a fruity, mellow take that’s as pretty as it tastes.
- Oat matcha — matcha made with oat milk as standard, for the smoothest, foamiest cup (oat and matcha are a brilliant match).
- Straight matcha — just matcha and hot water, whisked, if you want it pure and ceremonial.
Oat and coconut milk come as standard, with whole milk if you’d prefer, and you can have any of these hot or iced. Looking for an iced version specifically? It’s right here, and on our iced drinks menu too.
What makes our matcha different
Not all matcha is the same, and the difference is night and day. We use ceremonial-grade matcha — the highest grade, made from the youngest, shade-grown tea leaves, stone-ground into a fine, vivid-green powder. It’s grown in Japan, where matcha has been made for centuries, and it’s milled for drinking on its own rather than for baking. That’s why ours tastes smooth and naturally sweet instead of dry and bitter.
Lower-grade “culinary” matcha is cheaper, more astringent and made to stand up to sugar and milk in recipes — which is exactly why so many café matcha lattes need all that syrup. We don’t. Because our matcha is good enough to drink properly, we let it taste like matcha. If you’d like to understand the grades before you order, our guide to ceremonial vs culinary matcha breaks it down in plain English.
Strawberry & oat matcha
Two of our favourites deserve their own mention. Strawberry matcha is the drink that broke the internet for good reason — real strawberry against earthy, creamy matcha is a genuinely brilliant combination, sweet and grassy at once, and it looks the part with its pink-and-green layers. Oat matcha is for the purists who still want it creamy: oat milk foams beautifully and rounds off matcha’s edge without flattening its flavour. Both are vegan as standard, both are halal- and kosher-friendly, and both are available iced.
Matcha vs coffee
People often ask whether to switch from coffee to matcha. The honest answer is that they do different jobs. Matcha contains caffeine — roughly 38–70mg per serving, depending on how it’s made — alongside an amino acid called L-theanine, which is why matcha tends to give you calmer, steadier energy without the spike-and-crash some people get from coffee. Coffee gives you a bigger, faster hit. Neither is “better” — it depends on the morning you’re having. We make both properly, so you don’t have to choose sides. Frequently asked questions
How much caffeine is in a matcha latte?
A matcha latte typically contains around 38–70mg of caffeine per serving, depending on how much matcha is used. That’s usually less than a standard coffee, but the L-theanine in matcha makes the energy feel calmer and more sustained.
Is your matcha ceremonial grade?
Yes. We use ceremonial-grade Japanese matcha for every matcha drink — the highest grade, milled for drinking, which is why ours is smooth and naturally sweet rather than bitter.
Is matcha vegan and dairy-free?
Matcha itself is naturally vegan. We serve it with oat and coconut milk as standard, so a dairy-free matcha latte is the default here, and it’s halal- and kosher-friendly too.
Do you do iced matcha?
We do. Our iced matcha latte is one of our most popular drinks, available with any milk, and you can have strawberry or oat matcha iced as well.
Does matcha taste bitter?
Good matcha shouldn’t. Bitterness usually comes from low-grade powder or water that’s too hot. Because we use ceremonial-grade matcha whisked properly, ours tastes smooth, mellow and naturally sweet.
